Additional Senior Graduation Information

The Graduation Ceremony is Friday, June 23, 2017. The ceremony will begin at 6PM sharp in the Gymnasium.

 

Graduation practice is Wed. June 21st, & Thurs. June 22nd in the gymnasium. Be in the gym & ready to begin at 10am.

No one will be admitted late to practice either day, and no one will be dismissed early. (Scheduled placements tests must be documented and approved prior to practice on Wednesday.)

All financial and academic obligations must be met prior to practice on Wednesday.

Caps & Gowns will be distributed to students at the conclusion of practice on Wednesday.

Five tickets will be distributed to students at the end of practice on Thursday. The number of tickets for each student was determined by the capacity of the gym, divided by the number of graduates. No extra tickets are available. Students were advised to speak with their classmates to determine if they would not need all five of their tickets. Please do not come to the door of graduation unless you have a ticket. Please note: once you enter the gym, you must remain in the gym. No entering and exiting will be permitted.

Important Senior Class Information

1. Senior dues are $85.00 dollars. ($35.00 if you do not wish to purchase a yearbook). This must be paid by Friday, June 16, 2017. (In addition: Notices were given to seniors in December about book, locks, and other items they did not return and were financially responsible for replacing. As of June 9, 2017, not one senior has met that outstanding obligation.)

2. You must meet all your academic responsibilities by Friday, June 16, 2017, or you will be unable to march in the graduation ceremony, and may not graduate depending on the outstanding items.

3. Senior pictures were taken at NJCDC "Rodgers Center"-32 Spruce Street. The opportunity for a re-take was Tuesday, May 9th in GMA. If you did not appear for any of the three sessions, there is no graduation photo to appear in the yearbook.

4. Cap & gowns have arrived & will be distributed at graduation practice to students that have completed all responsibilities both academically & financially..

5. Yearbook- Students wishing to purchase a yearbook, must inform Mrs. Pollina by Wednesday, June 14, 2017.

6. Prom information: The prom was held on May 25, 2017, all in attendance had a great time.

7. If you will not be participating in the Graduation Ceremony, please let me know immediately.(As of 6/917, no one informed me that they would not be attending graduation. Cancellations at this point are still responsible for the cost of the graduation cap/gown/stoll/etc...).
8. The graduation ceremony for GMA and International (Will graduate together) will be held on June 23, 2017 and will begin at 6pm sharp in the Gymnasium at 200 Grand Street. You must have a ticket to enter. (Late arrivals will have to wait outside until the graduates have entered and are seated. Each senior will be given six corrected to 5  tickets. Additional tickets will only be available if a senior does not need all six corrected to 5  of their tickets.
9. Please remember to monitor your attendance so you do not exceed 20 days for a full year class, and 15 days for a 3 marking period class (Phys. Ed.), and 5 days for a 1 marking period class (Health).
Remember that only English, health, physical education, and Algebra 1 will be offered in Summer School.
Geometry & Algebra  will only be offered if the numbers warrant the classes.
No science or social studies classes or other electives will be offered in summer school.

Bridging the Past and Engineering the Future

GMA Senior, Dayvon Robinson have been accepted to several Major Division I & II Colleges such as The University of Toledo,OH, The University of Akron,OH and Wagner College of New York just to name a few. On April 4th, Dayvon Robinson made his decision between Wagner College where he received a Academic Alumni Award Scholarship of $40,000.00 to attend or to attend The University of Akron where he was accepted and upon his acceptance, he was also accepted into their School of Engineering at Akron where he received a $ 30,000.00 Merit Scholarship in the Study of Corrosion Engineering. Also, he received The Anton Scholarship ( Underrepresented Groups in Engineering) and was also accepted into (The Emerging Leaders Honors Program) at The University of Akron where he will be attending in the Fall of 2017. Since then, Dayvon Robinson has been Nominated for ( The 42nd Annual Passaic County Chapter Of The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Scholar-Athlete Awards Dinner) on April 26th at The Mountainside Inn in Clifton, NJ. He will also play in ( The Prestigious 39th Annual Phil Simms New Jersey North-South All-Star Football Classic Game ) on June 26thth 2017 at Kean College of New Jersey. Congratulation Dayvon from your GMA family!

We ask anyone with credible information to please contact the Paterson Police Dept. The safety and security of our students, teachers, administrators, faculty, and school visitors remains a top priority for everyone at 200 Grand Street, and we will continue to remain vigilant in monitoring all activities on school grounds. The district and city are capable of sending out an emergency notification if necessary, and immediate action would take place. Congratulations GMA student D.W.

In June, student D.Whyte; rising Junior; represented Garrett Morgan Academy of Transportation & Engineering, and the State of New Jersey at the Congress of Future Medical Leaders in Boston, Massachusetts. She was presented with an official "Award of Excellence", certifying her successful completion of the Congress.

At the Congress, she was surrounded by fellow students who share her passion, ability and potential, and she was personally taught by some of the greatest living minds in medicine.

D’s Garrett Morgan family is proud of her accomplishment, and wishes her continued success.

GMA Uniform Shirts

Garrett Morgan Academy Uniform Shirts

Sample sizes are available at GMA. The shirts will be available in Adult unisex sizes from small to 4x.

Shirts size Small to XLarge is $15.00, and shirts 2X to 4X are $18.00 dollars per shirt.

If you would like to place an order, please fill-in an order form with the size of the shirt(s) you would like to order. Please include your child's name and other information required on the form.  Payment is in cash only  . A receipt will be provided. Navy Blue GMA Logo Polo shirts previously purchased from Kid's palace can continue to be worn, but we require the new logo on future purchases. There are stores selling unofficial Uniform Shirts w/out the schools permission.

The "Senior" polo for Garrett Morgan Academy will be "Black" with the same logo as the regular Navy GMA polo.

All students will be wearing khaki pants, that means NO black jeans, sweats, yoga pants, etc... Once again, All students will be wearing khaki pants!   (Mr. M. McGinley, Principal)
