Senior Graduation Information


You will not be able to participate in any activity associated with graduation, if you have not completed all your senior obligations!

Graduation practice will be Friday, June 22nd- Practice will begin at 8:30am.

and Monday, June 25th. -Practice will begin at 10am. (Revised @the practice on Friday)

That means you must be ready to begin at 10am, not arrive at 10am!

Practice will last as long as it needs to, and will depend on your cooperation.


Caps, Gowns, and graduation stolls will be distributed at the end of practice on Friday, June 22nd

Graduation tickets will be distributed at the end of practice on Monday, June 25th (Each graduate will receive six (6) tickets. There are no extra tickets.)  Please speak with classmates to determine if they have extra tickets because they are not using all their tickets. (Diplomas can be picked up immediately after the ceremony. Mr. McGinley & Ms. Shirell will be in the male phys. ed. teachers office, just outside the gym. Please note information below about the process if a student disrupts graduation).


Please remember, participation in the graduation ceremony is a privilege, not a right. If you make a conscious decision to disrupt or disrespect the process to carry out a dignified and professional ceremony, you will NOT participate in the graduation ceremony. (Students that cause a disruption during the ceremony will be able to pick up their diplomas at the GMA Main Office starting Monday, July 9th).

Final Exams

Final Exam Schedule

Beginning Wednesday, June 13, 2018 until the last day of school, all students will be following a 1pm dismissal schedule. 

All students must be in their scheduled classrooms by 8:10am. The exams will be as follows:

Wednesday, June 13, 2018 Exams: Periods 1 & 4

Thursday, June 14, 2018 Exams: Periods 2 & 5

Friday, June 15, 2018  No School

Monday, June 18, 2018 Exams: 3 & 6

Tuesday, June 19, 2018 Exams: 8 & 7

Wednesday, June 20, 2018 Exams: Period 9 & Make-ups


(All exams are 2 hours)

The first exam is 8:20am-10:20am

Homeroom is 10:24am-10:44am

The second exam is 10:50am-12:50pm

Students must comply will all school and district policies to be eligible to take their exams.

Make-up exams require a doctor's note be given to the Principal if a student misses their exam on the scheduled day.

Senior Information

Graduation June 26, 2018 & Senior Obligations

1. The graduation ceremony will be at 9am on Tuesday, June 26, 2018. (You must have a ticket to enter. There is no entering and exiting allowed.) All potential graduates must be at school no later than 8am. The ceremony will begin promptly at 9am.

(It is our intention to conduct a dignified and respectful ceremony. Any individual that does not honor that intention may not be allowed to participate in the ceremony, or will be removed from the location.)

2. The last day to fully complete any credit recovery courses is Wednesday, June 13, 2018.

3. All classes must be passed in order to march in the graduation ceremony. (If you must attend summer school, you can't march)

4. Lost books, locks, or other financial obligations must be paid by Friday, June 8, 2018. No graduation items can be processed until obligations are met. (Past due!)

5. Cap, Gown, and school stoll is $35.00 dollars (Must be paid no later than Friday, June 8, 2018) Seniors can see Ms. Shirell in the GMA Main Office. (Past Due!)

6. If you wish to purchase a yearbook the cost is $50.00 dollars (You must let Ms. Grayson know by Friday, June 1st if you want to order the yearbook, and pay no later than Friday, June 8, 2018. We will be using Shutterfly to create and process the yearbook. Once you indicate you want a yearbook, it becomes a senior financial obligation and can't be cancelled.) (Yearbooks have already been ordered. If you did not pay for the yearbook by 8am on Monday, June 11, 2018, it is no longer possible to obtain the book for the $50.00 reduced bulk rate price. Individually ordered books could cost up to $80.00 plus shipping and handling)

7. All graduates will receive Six (6) tickets. No balloons, etc... are allowed to be carried into the ceremony location.

8. Please be aware. If a student is disruptive or disrespectful during the ceremony, they will not receive their diploma at the end of the ceremony. They will have to come to school any day between 8am and 1pm from July 9th to July 20th to pick up their diploma.

Senior Pictures

If you had your Senior pictures taken. They are now available. Senior pictures were taken free of charge by the photographer of our Advisory Partner the New Jersey Community Development Corporation (NJCDC). Thank you Mr. Guaraschi and NJCDC for your continued support!

(Seniors-Bring a flash drive, and the pictures will be transferred so you can print them on your own at any retail store.)

Uniform Shirt Information-8-11-17

Garrett Morgan Academy Uniform Shirts are available at:

United School Uniforms 301 Main Street (Center City Mall-B-104), Paterson, NJ 973 341-7622 

Check their website for the hours they are open.

Navy Blue Polo shirts with the GMA Logo are the only official uniform shirt. (Bootleg t-shirts, etc... with GMA logos are not the school uniform.)

All students will be wearing khaki pants, that means NO black jeans, sweats, yoga pants, etc...

Once again, All students will be wearing khaki pants! Please refer to the student handbook posted on this website (and sent home with every student) for further information concerning the uniform policy.  (Mr. M. McGinley, Principal)

All students must be in the approved uniform at all times.

Congratulations GMA student D.W.

In June of 2016, and again in the summer of 2017, student D.Whyte; rising Senior; represented Garrett Morgan Academy, and the State of New Jersey at the Congress of Future Medical Leaders in Boston, Massachusetts. She was presented with an official "Award of Excellence", certifying her successful completion of the Congress.

At the Congress, she was surrounded by fellow students who share her passion, ability and potential, and she was personally taught by some of the greatest living minds in medicine.

D’s Garrett Morgan family is proud of her on-going accomplishments, and wishes her continued success.
